The Postgraduate Program in Environmental Education aims at the training of teachers-researchers able to contribute to the production and dissemination of knowledge and its transformation in the field of environmental education in its multiple dimensions. Thus, aims to train human resources in environmental education in all areas of knowledge. In the current context, virtually all fields of knowledge developed by FURG have links with environmental education, as mentioned above. The program follows the creation of the master's program in 1994 and doctorate in 2006.

The program's proposal is based in an interdisciplinary perspective and with the integration of teachers attached to different courses or course units that make up the new organizational structure of the institution. Usually it happens that teachers who work in different courses at the undergraduate level end up developing an the interest and incentive to students, who as a consequence, get more involved and show interest in the area, resulting, in parallel, the direct and indirect participation in activities and events promoted and, subsequently, on demand by the Program for Environmental Education (Master's and PhD) as an option for qualification at the level of Graduate Studies. This movement of awareness has made a positive trend in relation to our Graduate Studies Program.
